4 Helpful benefits to registering your dog as an emotional support animal

While it is not a must, it is important that you register your emotional support animal. When you register your dog, you get many benefits unlike when it is not registered. For instance, your airline can recognize your dog easily as an ESA without you providing a lot of explanation. However, remember that before you register your dog, you should have obtained an emotional support dog letter indicating that you have been assessed by a certified therapist who has confirmed that you have a medical condition that requires you to have an emotional support animal. Some of these ailments include depression, panic attacks, autism, PTSD and other mental health disorders.
What are these benefits?

1. You get a registration kit
When you register an emotional support dog, you are given a registration kit. Depending on your needs and the amount you pay, the kit may contain a registration certificate for your dog, a tag, leash, collar, ID and a vest. All these are provided so that your dog can be identified easily as an emotional support dog. With these, you may not be bothered to provide any further explanation as to why you need to keep your pet with you. Therefore, you and your pet are at peace and free from further scrutiny.

2. Easy recognition
From the registration of your emotional support dog, you can get an ID, tag, leash and identifiable ESA vest. All these help to identify your dog easily as an emotional support animal. Therefore, you don’t have to keep explaining your situation to people as to why you need to keep your pet with you. However, while your pet may pass through many places from the recognition, you may be required to provide further support of your claim in form of an emotional support animal letter from a therapist. This may happen in case you want to rent a no pet policy house or board an airline.

3. No additional fees
In most cases, you are required to pay additional fees or a pet deposit if you want to stay with your pet in your residence. Also, airlines charge extra fees for pets or require them to be transported in the carrier case. However, if you have an emotional support animal, you are not required to pay any additional fees to your landlord and your pet can stay with you in the cabin without paying any extra charges. All you may need is the identification of the animal as an ESA using a tag, ID, leash or certificate.

4. You get additional support
Most providers of emotional support registry provide further support after you register your ESA. This can be by educating you about your rights concerning emotional support animals, enlightening you about laws concerning ESA in different states so that wherever you are, you know your rights. Remember that when you register your ESA with a particular registry, it is valid for the support animal’s lifetime and you don’t have to keep registering. However, you need to renew your emotional support letter every year. In case your condition improves within that year, you may not need to have an emotional support animal in the next year.
