Peter
McWilliams
Noted author, Libertarian,
and HIV patient, Peter McWilliams was engaged in pioneering work with new
medical cannabis strains when he was arrested by the DEA. Taken in with Rene Boje and Todd McCormick, Peter was denied access to medical
cannabis by Federal Judge King. Peter perished when, as predicted, he aspirated
while attempting to keep his AIDS medication down.
Rene Boje
Rene provided simple
gardening assistance to Peter McWilliams and Todd McCormick but was swept up in
the first Federal crackdown on medical cannabis in Los Angeles. Facing significant prison time even if she testified
against her friends, Rene took refuge in Canada where she continues her fight to be granted political
asylum.
Ryan
Landers
AAMC’s own State Director for California and member of the Attorney General’s Task Force on
Medical Marijuana, Ryan has fought local authorities for years to establish the
right of patients to grow their own medicine and help fellow patients to do the
same. Ryan has developed excellent relationships with State Officials and has
helped educate a new generation of legislators across the nation.
Valerie Corral
Along with her husband Mike,
the Corrals are pioneers in the development of nonprofit patient cooperatives.
Working with local authorities, she helped establish the Wo/Men’s Alliance for Medical Marijuana (WAMM) which served hundreds of
patients before being raided by the DEA.
Mollie
Fry, MD
Dr. Mollie Fry is a medical
cannabis patient (breast cancer) and courageous Christian physician who
recommended cannabis to some 5,000 patients over their current toxic
medications. Mollie and her attorney husband Dale Schaeffer were raided by the
DEA for their personal medical garden. Dr. Fry continues to be the target of
the California Medical Board who views this pioneering angel as some sort of
twisted drug dealer.
Jeff
Jones
Organizer of the Oakland
Medical Cannabis Club, Jeff was targeted by the United States Attorney for a civil
injunction closing the distribution of medical cannabis to hundreds of needy East Bay residents. Other Bay area clubs were also named in
this case that went to the Supreme Court. Jeff Jones currently faces trumped up
charges of “obstruction” for handing out educational leaflets outside the
Federal Courthouse where Bryan Epis was on trial without benefit of a medical
necessity defense.
Tod
Mikuriya, MD
Long time Bay Area physician
and psychiatrist, Dr. Mikuriya remains a target of the California Medical Board
for his recommendations for cannabis legal under California’s Compassionate Use Act.
